Day off today. Let’s take a Lucky Dip on the buses. To the uninitiated, this involves popping down to the bus stop and jumping on the fist bus to turn up irrespective of it’s destination.

First along is the 710 destined for the town of Hastings.

Most people assume that the battle of Hastings took place here. Wrong. It happened in 1066 a few miles inland in a field . The town which grew up as a result of the famous event is now called Battle.

Anyway, I’m rambling. Hastings is a somewhat – how shall I put it?- depressed town. Actually that’s not entirely fair as considerable strides have been made to improve the place. You know the kind of thing – continental style cafes with seating outside, pedestrianisation, and street entertainers. Too often however, the entertainment comes courtesy of the boys and girls in blue as they try to reson some sad individual who’s become somewhat worse for wear courtesy of wicked Mr Alcohol.

So back to my lucky dip. the same principle applies here in Hastings, and the first bus I spy is one Rye. A little single deck job sporting the green and white of Countryside Services.Rye sounds good. Haven’t been there for years.

Now this is no straightforward route to Rye. Soon we are are heading off along narrow lanes hardly suited to even this tiny bus.Every now and then we jerk to a halt to allow a lorry or some other large vehicle to squeeze past.

On we go through places I’d not seen for ages. Fairlight, Pett Level and Winchelsea Beach. Eventually we rejoin the main road and make a triumphal entry into the ancient Cinque Port of Rye.

It’s lunchtime and I can just remember a pub called the United Friends which was well known for it’s fine ale and ploughman’s lunches. I found it and it didn’t disappoint. My search was amply rewarded with a couple of pints of Speckled Hen and a selection of fine Sussex cheeses with homemade pickle.

Suitably refreshed I head off to re-acquaint myself with the wonderful Norman church, the cobbled streets and the town walls.

Off I go the bus stop. Now I have to be careful here. There’s a danger that the first bus could be going to Dover or some other far-flung destination and I wouldn’t get back home in time for Coronation Street. Fortunately the first to arrive is a Stagecoach double decker No.711 which will take me back to Hastings by an inland route. Off we go across the marshes that were once the sea-bed then up a steep hill to the village of Winchelsea which, like Rye was once a coastal town but now lies several miles from the briny.

Back in Hasting I find the 98. Excellent! This one will take back to Bexhill on Sea where I started but a different way thereby completing a round trip without using the same bus twice!

Mission accomplished!

You have probably seen commercials for Priceline.com on television, but just because you see a commercial does not mean that you believe what they are telling you. Priceline.com is an on line travel company where you can find great rates on fights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, vacation packages and more. Priceline.com is very easy to use even for the novice computer user.

Priceline.com is very easy to use and shows you rates and prices of a flight from one airline compared to a flight from another airline. You can see if the flight is non-stop or if there is a scheduled layover in another location. Priceline.com shows the rates of hundreds of airlines and will help you find you the best deal possible for you destination.

Priceline.com also has more lodging rates and information, all over the world than you will ever need to find you the best deal on a hotel. The great thing about this is that you don’t have to call several different place to find the right place to stay. You can simply go to the Priceline.com website and find the best deal. Some of the hotels even offer virtual tours so that you can actually see what the rooms look like before you pay for it.

Priceline.com also has great deals on cruises and vacation packages, but I have not personally used these services on Priceline.com yet. My sister and her husband swear by Priceline.com’s vacation packages.

As far as transportation when you get to your destination, Priceline.com allows you to search for the best car rental rates. You can go ahead and make these reservations ahead of time and save money by using Priceline.com.

Priceline.com is a very easy to navigate website, that is very efficient and will be a great asset to you when you are planning your travels.

Cruise travel will be the focus of this article. Arter reading this article, you will be able to book your cruise vacation with confidence.

Cruise vacations offer something for everyone. Whether you want an exciting adventure or a relaxing vacation, youll find it. Take the time to learn about all your options to make sure you find the right cruise for you.

You are perhaps planning your vacation on a cruise this year. But researching the costs may make you worry that this is beyond your means. There are a lot of ways to save some money on the cruise you want to book. If youre like most of us, you should evaluate all your options. Do some research before you sign up for any cruise. Take the time to do some research about cruises first. If youve done your homework, a cruise can easily fit into your budget.

Your choices are limited by the destinations you would like to go to, the attractions you want to see, and the other things that you want to do. You can increase your savings by keeping an open mind about your choices for the cruise. If you can choose when to take your vacation, its usually best to go in the off season. It is in the winter season that the most attractive offers come by. But luckily, it doesnt have to be winter in the destination youd like to visit.

Especially if youre a northerner, youll really enjoy a winter cruise to a tropical, summery location. If you comparison shop, youll spend less on your cruise. The numerous options available to be booked are often offered at different prices. Notice the fare differences that can be obtained on different websites for the same cruise.

It can break your heart if you decide on the most expensive one without checking around. Take some time to compare prices available. Consider how you will reach your cruise. Your cruise will end up costing more if you have to fly to the cruise port.

If its feasible, think about driving. Check to see how close to home you can board your cruise ship.

You may save a lot on your flight costs if you reduce the mileage this way. Saving money on the cruise you want is always possible. If you can leave on short notice, some cruises offer substantial savings in the off season when theyre not so busy. This can be the absolute best way to save money!

Travelers face higher fares, added fees and more crowded planes. So, what is a traveler to do? According to a recent Associated Press report on travel, “Nearly all of the largest U.S. carriers are making cutbacks. That’s bad news for travelers, especially those who fly out of smaller regional airports that are losing flights and service. And it’s almost certain to get worse unless oil prices drop and take the pressure off airlines to keep shrinking.”

And air travel comfort and convenience isn’t the only issue. Travelers booking hotel reservations, cruises, car rentals and vacation packages are also feeling the affect of rising oil prices on the ground.

Although many travel search sites exist, rates frequently change depending on basic supply and demand market conditions. Airfares actually change hourly depending on percentages of seats booked. Often times a traveler finds one rate on one site, and “surfs” to another travel search site to make price comparisons only become frustrated after hours of searches, discovering that the “low fare” is no longer available. Conventions can gobble up virtually every available hotel room, leaving the casual travel with few affordable options, driving the prices up and reducing availability.

Bidding online for travel deals has become “caveat emptor” with many people overbidding and not getting much of a value. Sometimes “fees” and “fuel surcharges” are not clearly explained and what seems like a good deal, really isn’t. No longer is it as simple as calling a local trusted travel agent for the lowest rates because most of the brick and mortar agencies have long since closed their doors due to the competition of Internet travel agency firms.

A new method to reduce travel costs, planning group travel has become the latest rage. Group travel specialists put together the free travel quote for families planning trips together for reunions, weddings, religious, and even senior events as well as affinity groups who travel for lodge events, clubs meetings, and fraternity or sorority vacations. Substantial discounts can be obtained this way due to the combined purchasing power.

New technologies are becoming available on the Internet to enable travelers to conduct “power searches”. These advanced search engine technologies are emerging to level the playing field. Using this advanced search technology, instead of spending hours comparing the rates and availability on multiple travel sites, a traveler can obtain more reliable and timely search results in just a few minutes.

Travel consolidators have also put together special trips, cruises, vacation packages or “deals” for private members who are able to choose from a variety of destinations that are “discount” and pre-purchased. This low cost approach has enabled travelers to visit the most popular destinations even during peak periods.

Travelers are also relying on creative ways to budget vacation, including frequent flyer miles and credit card rebate and rewards programs. Hostels have also become popular among travelers. And with rising fares, rail tickets are getting more attention as car rental rates have increased. “Off season” travel has also become a viable option for reducing the overall cost of a trip although weather conditions at favorite destinations are usually the governing factor.

Despite these challenges, travelers are now spending over $7 trillion a year online in booking travel arrangements and that figure is projected to double within a few short years.

Situated on the west coast of India in the district known as the Konkan, it is surrounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north, and by Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast. Prominent for its beaches, temples and world heritage building, Goa is visited by hundreds of thousands of international and domestic tourists each year. Goa enjoys a high standard of source of revenue. Tourism is Goa’s most important industry. Goa has two most important tourist seasons: winter and summer. In the winter time, tourists from in a foreign country come to Goa to enjoy the impressive average temperature. In the summer time, tourists from across India come to fritter the holidays. Tourism is generally listening carefully on the coastal areas of Goa, on India’s west coast sandwiched between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea, has rich enlightening ethnicity. Naval buy and sell contacts and Portuguese royally rule helped combine and bring together international literary elements in Goa society giving rise to distinctive ethnographic and harmonious society creating a strange combination of East and West, a simple folk and contemporary Indian cultural philosophy.
Even as spiritual discrimination by the Portuguese partially or altogether shattered the central part of the tradition philosophy in the Old Conquests, it remained more or less whole in the New Conquests. The rise and reduce of many dynasties. These events kept Goa life in instability and, to a large level, in an inferior position the growth of art and culture. It is prominent that Portuguese statute, although long-stretched, could not intensely authority creative art and culture. However, some novel styles evolved in traditional values with their policy which fundamentally impacted a section of elites and not the complete population. Thus, folk art for the most part remained beyond such influences.
The simple folk residing in pastoral areas still reverence nature, articulated on several occasions round the year. Along with the established communities, the wandering people and aboriginals also continuous were performing a collection of resources, maintaining the dominance of the female principle. Concurrently the women performed productiveness cremation, guarding their secrets as the supernatural. A fairy story stretch by ill-informed Indo-Portuguese and western scholars holds that before the arrival of the Portuguese, Goa had no ethnicity worth dialogue about. Studies undertaken by this author show the multifarious succession of the special deception dance-drama. Tourism is very imperative to the financial system; local industries include clothing, footwear, pesticides, manganese, and fishing nets. Cultivation is based on the crop growing of rice, pulses, cashew nuts, coconuts. Goa cuisine is an arrangement of dissimilar influences and despite the fact that the recipes and techniques have changes and evolved over the years, the basic ingredients remain the same. Goa with its tourist petition for youthful and old similar is celebrated for its beaches, river cruises, water and adventure sports, churches, and negligent civilization.

It seems like everyone wants to try Mexico at some point or another. Whether it’s when you’re a senior in high school, on the college spring break, or finally getting around to that second honeymoon, Mexico can sound rather appealing. What is it about this Latino country that draws in spectators and tourists from around the globe? Is it the warm climate, the lack of grass, the all-night fiestas, the beautiful waters, or the lack of age-limit on drinking? Oh yeah, that last one is pretty much it. I can’t even imagine how many youths visit Mexico for this very luxury. Where are your teenagers heading for spring break or summer vacation?

Cancun is the hotspot! Between this tourist attraction and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico must pull in a great deal of cash. These are the spots taken advantage of by so many Americans and foreign travelers alike. There must be some appeal to that warm sun, sandy beaches, and endless margaritas. However, I can’t imagine what it would be. Personally, I haven’t been down to visit Mexico yet. It’s one of those spots my wife and I have on the to-visit list, but it just hasn’t happened yet. I will admit that a part of me is a bit wary or visiting Mexico. I’m this way with every foreign land. There’s a feeling of insecurity that goes along with leaving your native country. What if something were to happen? Would the local authorities assist you when you’re there? Or would you end up like that young lady in Aruba? These are legitimate concerns to have. There’s nothing wrong with thinking cautiously. In fact, it’s what will probably keep you safe and free from harm or danger when you do visit Mexico, or any foreign land for that matter.

Research the area you intend to stay prior to your trip. I will definitely find out which spots are the most recommended and which are typically avoided before I visit Mexico. It’s up to you to keep your loved ones and yourself safe at all times. Of course you want to have a blast and take in the new and amazing sites, but don’t let your guard down. It’s imperative to remember that you’re not a native. So plan that ideal trip; visit Mexico and have the time of your life, but remember to steer clear of shady areas and eerie individuals you don’t know.

Video Conferencing is a Gimmick

Who really thinks that video conferencing is anything but a gimmick? It can be expensive and that’s not even when you consider the special – and expensive – equipment you have to buy to make a video conference work. The quality can be bad with choppy or slow visuals and scratchy or clipped sound. These complaints above are why some say video conferencing is a gimmick, meaning “a piece of trickery or manipulation intended to achieve a result dishonestly” (ex. “It’s just a sales gimmick”). What the rest of us know – the millions of people who use video conferencing – is that video conferencing really is a gimmick, or “an ingenious device or mechanism” that is, among other things, “something that attracts attention or publicity.”

There will always be a gizmo that is the best tech available. It will always be the most expensive and quite possibly the coolest looking. It will provide the best experience of whatever genre it’s the top of. In video conferencing, it’s a system that costs several hundred thousand dollars, has specialized equipment, constrains a conference to only the locations the specialized equipment is in, and needs the highest bandwidth available. It is also surreal as it is the most realistic experience possible without being in the same room. The images move without any delay, the colors are vibrant, and the floor to ceiling screens complete the impressive ensemble.

This system you do not need, but how incredible would it be to have it? Maybe one day when holographic conferences are available – “HoloConfs,” you saw it here first! – then the huge screen and perfect video conference will be available to all at a reasonable price. In the meantime, we should realize that the gimmick of video conferences does not lie in the best equipment, but rather in what we do with what we have. What you should look for is a video conference provider that has reasonable costs, offers quality conferences, and does not require any special equipment other than a webcam and your computer. You get smooth video, clear audio, multiple participants, and a good video conference experience.

The best example of the use of this more sensible type of video conferencing is doing regular video conferences with your customers. Not only do you save money above equipment and service costs by going without travel and lodgings, but you respect your customer’s time. They don’t have to prepare to meet with your company’s representative in person, and thus you get to meet with them more often. And never discount the bonding a video conference gives you and your customer by sharing the experience of being on the “cutting edge” of business and technology.

On a much smaller scale on the video conferencing technology tree is an idea that probably is most considered a gimmick – the bad kind of gimmick – if not looked at in the right perspective. This idea is the free webcam and instant messaging type of video conference. For those who don’t use instant messaging, you should know that not only can you “bleep” messages to your contacts quickly, but you can also do voice and video. All you need to do this is a mic and webcam for your computer. Setup is easy and use is just as simple as pressing the “chat with video” button.

Unlike a real video conference, you can only do video with one other person, the quality is choppy, and the screen is small. You would only want to use this with coworkers – or friends of course – for a quick video chat. We all have a pretty good idea when a phone call just won’t cut it and we need to see someone in person, so think of cheap video chat as another choice between a face-to-face and a phone call. You will be able to see the disposition of your coworker, know that they are paying attention to you, and see if they understand or not. All of that from a quick video chat.

The future of video conferencing is here, but then again, it will always be here. The most bespoke technology will give you the results you want, but so will the options that are far more reasonable. Video conferencing is a gimmick, but make sure it is in your business arsenal, and use it for the “ingenious device or mechanism” that it is.
