Gay fashion photographer Ga tan has been held in jail in Bombay,India, since January 13.If convicted he risks 5 years imprisonment, a sentence which as a Westerner he will most probably not survive.
He is accused of having forced two handsome, young Indians into posing nude.Ga tan strongly denies the charges,stating he only did so in order to please his would be models.
It is indeed most unlikely that he could have been able to use physical force against two healthy young men. There is no Royal Rumble in society with the straight population ready to pounce on gay people over holy matrimony rights. There is no cause for gay people to be always defensive of their lifestyle either. People judge gays and lesbians in a negative way because of the way society, lawmakers and the media depict their actions. They will not entertain the idea that being gay is not a choice, but chemistry within you.
When I was a teenager AIDS was a new, hot topic. Everyone judged the victims of AIDS before they even knew who they were. They had AIDS and therefore they were either gay or slept around a lot. Not one person discussing where AIDS came from would take in to consideration that years ago tattoo needles were reused. It was not accounted for that blood was not tested for such a disease prior to a blood transfusion.

Being the third largest city by population in the U.S., it is no surprise that Chicago has a large, strong, and healthy gay community. Aside from the fact Chicago is a great place for anyone to visit, or even live, for an LGBT person it seems like this was a city tailor made for them. Of course the weather could use some help, but that is another issue completely.
Chicago has long been a city which embraced it’s gay community, that isn’t to say it is all open arms, but for the most part the LGBT and straight communities co-exist seamlessly. When I first announced to friends and family in the summer of 2007 that I wanted to go to Europe for Christmas – alone – the response was always the same. “What?!? Alone?!?!? Aren’t you afraid?”
