The long term implications of online social networking websites
In the second half of 2005, Tim O’Reilly and his team coined the term ‘web 2.0′ as a term to help explain the changing nature of interaction on the internet as well as quantify those characteristics that would forge the way in which people would behave on the web. Much of what is captured in their initial explanations turned out to be the characteristics that gave birth to the social networking explosion that we have been seeing in the last two years. In 2005, the concepts of blogs, wikis, tagging and rating were novel and present on upstart forerunner sites. MySpace was overtaken by FaceBook, and players like Yahoo tried to make their impact with Yahoo 360 Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsGoogle Earth explained
Since becoming a computer owner, I have never been so excited since becoming a helium member and now experiencing Google Earth. This morning I put a search in the Helium search box for “My experiences with Google earth.” I downloaded Google earth about a month ago and have been in awe ever since. This week I also updated my Google Earth, the new items makes the whole experience mind blowing with what you can do. Everything from night vision to climbing mountains. Daylight hours is a whole new experience, especially when you can watch street scapes anywhere in the world.

The meaning of domain name extensions
Wondering what a domain extension are and what they mean? Take any website for example, (my example is: www.craftedcustomgifts.com) the domain extension is the .com part of the address. Domain extensions exist to make the internet more organized and helpful; the domain extensions actually tell you information about the particular site. So many sites use the generic .com extension but there actually are a variety of other extensions (such as .org and .info) on the web that classify the site for searchers and users. So what are other extension types and what do they mean?
Domain extensions are technically referred to as TLD, which stands for top level domain. A TLD is basically the highest category level that classifies Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsGoogle Earth explained – Part 1
Google Earth – I was only recently told of this site and after quite a bit of navigation we finally got into Google Earth!
I cannot explain how it all works but as a person who has never traveled beyond my own country (okay beyond the State next door) I was in awe of what I could see! I have now traveled to so many places (at quite a bit of MB expense) but it was well worth the trip. I sat with my young son and told him of my dream to go to Paris and there I was!.
Okay everything is not crystal clear but what amazed me the most was when I traveled to my Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsAssessing the future of Google Checkout
On-line shopping is the way to go these days! It’s convenient, quick, simple and makes life easier. Google has made shopping even easier by creating Google Checkout. You order from your favorite on-line store, then your orders, tracking and payments are all done in one place through the Google Checkout process.
Many of us surf and shop at multiple businesses across the web. Whenever you place an order, you must first register and create an account with a password. If you are like most of us, you may have forgotten your password a few times. With Google Checkout, you don’t have to remember all those user names and passwords.
Google Checkout professes to have fraud protection to guard against any unauthorized purchase. Read the rest of this entry »
