Travel diaries: Airport adventures and customs calamities – Part 1

Memories of jetBlue, February 2007

Ah, the jetBlue Valentine’s Day debacle of 2007. Such memories. As one of those lucky enough to be a bit-player in this particular drama, it never ceases to amaze me that the airline survived at all.

Let me take you through it, just for fun. Lest we forget.

The snowstorm hit the north-eastern seaboard on a Tuesday night. The following day, I was due to fly home to New York City from a company conference in Florida, along with dozens of colleagues.

The more hardened Tri-state travellers among us saw the folly of believing we would be flying anywhere that day, and settled in at the hotel bar for an extra night away Read the rest of this entry »

Online travel bookings versus offline travel bookings

Tourism is one of the Indian economy’s top earners, with prospects continuing to look brighter with each passing year. India has the world’s fastest-growing tourist economy, with the industry growing at an explosive 13% annually over the past four years. The travel industry at large – outbound, inbound and domestic alike, have been flourishing, thanks to the conjoined efforts of State and Central government tourism bodies, airlines, hotels and other verticals with travel agents and tour operators.

Alongside the tourism boom, India’s Internet population is also growing rapidly. The Internet and Mobile Association of India announced that one out of every 10 urban Indians now have access to the Internet, with the user base having doubled since 2004. Read the rest of this entry »

Travel website reviews: CheapTickets.com – Part 2

This is a trip report about India. My husband and I just returned from a month trip to Rajasthan and loved every minute of it. It was our dream to be there at least once but finally we found this country so different and interesting to come back again some time.

I did a search for our trip via the internet and came up with a variety of in-country travel specialists. After reading all info and checking prices etc, decided to go with Mr. Raju www.rajuindia.com and so glad that I did.

I did use the message board on many other forums to see if any one else had used this travel specialist and how surprising that I got many Read the rest of this entry »

Why you do or dont really need a travel agent – Part 16

Over the years i have stuck to the traditional way of booking holidays Travel Agents

The thing about travel agents is finding time going there, then lugging home loads of brochures to look through then finding more time to go back and book your holiday. You now can book your holidays online with most Travel agents nowadays.

Travel agents charge a lot more for the same holidays and charge silly prices for the insurance aswell.

I have booked many flights & hotels over the last couple of years saving me Hundreds

maybe Thousands of Pounds just by sitting in front of my pc.

I will find any holiday cheaper than a Travel Agent.

Tell me were you want to go:

How many People and ages:

Traveling by bus – Part 23

Day off today. Let’s take a Lucky Dip on the buses. To the uninitiated, this involves popping down to the bus stop and jumping on the fist bus to turn up irrespective of it’s destination.

First along is the 710 destined for the town of Hastings.

Most people assume that the battle of Hastings took place here. Wrong. It happened in 1066 a few miles inland in a field . The town which grew up as a result of the famous event is now called Battle.

Anyway, I’m rambling. Hastings is a somewhat – how shall I put it?- depressed town. Actually that’s not entirely fair as considerable strides have been made to improve the place. You know the kind of Read the rest of this entry »
